Lion of the Month
February 2012
Lion Frank Rush has been selected as the Northwestern Lions Club Lion-of-the-Month for February 2012. Lion Frank has been a member of our club since March 1996. During Lion Frank's time as a Northwestern Lion, he has supported most all of our club projects and fund raisers. Lion Frank has been active in supporting the State Fair and Indy racing projects as well as our hi-way cleanup efforts. Lion Frank has also been a big supporter of the Kid-care project, the raffle project, and has led the effort in our photo-screening project. Lion Frank has also served terms as a trustee for Indiana Cancer State Project and has served a term as our own District Governor! This club extends a hearty Thank You and Congratulations to Lion Frank Rush!!!

Lion Harold Seamon has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of-the-Month for January 2012. Lion Harold has been a member for a little over three years now and has been very active in the club. Besides working on all of our projects, Lion Harold has graciously accepted the time-consuming position of club secretary and has been doing an exemplary job in that roll. Being the Assistant Superintendent of Northwestern School Corp., Lion Harold brings to the club the needs of that corner of Howard County that our club serves. We are fortunate to have Lion Harold Seamon as a member of our club and offer a hearty Thank You and Congratulations to Lion Harold!!!

Lion Marv Buechler has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of-the-Month for December 2011. Lion Marv has held most every position that is available in our club and has also supported all of our projects both past and present. One project in particular that we have seen grow under Lion Marv's leadership is our Whole-Hog sausage project. Lion Marv has also held the important position of District Secretary a few years back. Lion Marv is one of our very active members and has a knack of keeping our club moving forward. For that we owe Lion Marv our many thanks. Through his hard work and dedication, Lion Marv is one of those people that makes the Lions look good and makes us proud tp be called a Lion. Thank You and Congratulations! to Lion Marv for his dedication to Lionism!

Lion Karen Rush has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of-the-Month for November 2011. Lion Karen has been a Northwestern Lion for 9 years. She has served the club in many leadership capacities during her years as a club member including being our president in 2009. Lion Karen is recognized for her work on the Peace Poster Project and the Christmas Family club project. Lion Karen helped organize the last membership night as well as working at various functions such as the State Fair and making numerous club visits. Lion Karen served on the District 25-D Lady Lion's Forum, and has served as 25-D Activities Chair. The club extends its Thank You and Congratulations!!! to Lion Karen.

Lion Merrill Hoban has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of-the-Month for October 2011. Lion Merrill has been a Northwestern Lion sense September of 1973 and he has served the club in many leadership capacities during his 30+ years as a club member. Lion Merrill is recognized for his work on student eyeglass and hearing aid project, scholarship committee, entertainment book project, and the Lion's law camp project just to mention a few. He is perennially one of the top Whole-hog Sausage sellers and supports all of our fund raisers and service projects. And to top it all off, Lion Merrill is our clubs newest recipient of a W.P. Woods fellowship! Thanks Lion Merrill for your hard work and congratulations!!!

A Special Lion:
Lion Gary Suter unexpectedly passed away in August.
To be quite honest, I and others are having a hard time getting a handle on Gary
being gone… Lion Gary has been a steadfast lion for the past 15 years and his
contributions to lionism have been many. Lion
Gary was one of those lions who helped with everything not only in the
Northwestern Lions club, but also on the district level. His energy and
enthusiasm have carried many a project to completion and his shoes will no doubt
be hard to fill. The Northwestern Lions club extends our heart-felt condolences
to Lion Gary’s family and a thank you for sharing him with us.
He will be sorely missed…

Lion Gary Suter has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of-the-Month for June 2011. Lion Gary has held many positions in the club including his term as president during the 2003-2004 year. Also, Lion Gary helps with most all of the club's projects and fundraisers. Lion Gary has also held many positions in the District including District 25D Sight-First group coordinator, Zone chair, and as chair of the Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF). Lion Gary also has the distinction of being a Melvin Jones Fellow and his strong dedication to Lionism and serving others has earned him the respect of his fellow Lions. The Northwestern Lions are fortunate to have such a dedicated fellow member. The Club extends its Thank You and congratulations to Lion Gary!!!

Lion Brent McClellan has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of-the-Month for May 2011. Lion Brent is being recognized for his past and ongoing dedication regarding the numerous club projects and activities that he supports and promotes. He remains involved with the Kid Care Projects, Indiana State Fair Project, and plays a major role with the Audit Committee. Also, Lion Brent is the Lion behind the highly successful raffle project. He again was very instrumental in bring additional merchants aboard to donate more prizes for the raffle. Likewise, Lion Brent is very active with the club's Highway Clean-Up efforts, sausage-and pancake breakfast and our cooking endeavor at Howard Elementary. He does what needs to be accomplished and makes the motto "WE SERVE" very visible in his numerous Lions activities. The Club extends its Thank You and Congratulations to Lion Brent!

Lion Charles Kirkman has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of-the-Month for April 2011. Lion Charles has been a Northwestern Lion since February 2002. Lion Charles is a regular attendee of our meetings and is active in the club activities. Besides having served as both Lion Tamer and club President, Lion Charles has been instrumental (no pun intended) in getting our club to work at the Kokomo Park Band performances. Lion Charles also helps with our breakfasts as Shiloh MUCH and helped with our dinner at Howard Elementary. Lion Charles is truly dedicated to our motto of 'We Serve' and is an asset to the club. We thank Lion Charles for his dedication and leadership. Thanks and congratulations to Lion Charles for your hard work and dedication!!!

Lion Gerry Redone has been selected as the Northwestern Lions Club Lion-of-the-Month for March 2011. Lion Gerry has been a Northwestern Lion since June 2006. Lion Gerry has been involved in the raffle project and besides his usual hard work in soliciting donations for the raffle has also been seen at Kroger's selling raffle tickets. Lion Gerry has also supported the highway cleanup project, the basket bingo project, our sausage & pancake breakfasts and Whole-Hog Sales Project along with several other projects. Lion Gerry was in charge of our club's efforts in hosting the District 25D District Convention at IUK in Kokomo a couple of years ago. Lion Gerry did a first-class job in setting up the convention and we all appreciate his efforts in making that convention a success. Currently, Lion Gerry is our own club president and is doing quite a good job at that position. This club extends a hearty THANK YOU and CONGRATULATION to LION GERRY PEDONE!!!

Lion Dick Byrum has been selected as the Northwestern Lions Club
Lion-of-the-Month for February 2011. Lion Dick has been a Northwestern Lion
since February 1985. Lion Dick has
consistently donated hogs for our spring and fall whole-hog sausage sales
project and has offered his assistance in getting the hogs to the processing
plant if other members are not available to provide that service.
In his earlier years as a Northwestern Lion, Lion Dick assisted the club
when by working the Howard County Fair selling caramel corn, brooms, cokes and
yogurt for the Northwestern Lions. He
also was involved when club members moved the playground equipment from Ervin
Elementary School to the Northwestern Elementary School site, a project that
involved several weekends.
Lion
Dick will be retiring from the hog business and we Northwestern Lions certainly
wish Lion Dick the best in his other pursuits and once again want to tell Lion
Dick ‘Thanks for all that you have done for the Northwestern Lions and Lionism
in general.’ Lion Dick Byrum is truly a tremendous asset, resource and friend
of the Northwestern Lions Club. This

Lion Vern Kirkman has been
selected as the Northwestern Lion-of-the-Month for December 2010.
Lion Vern has been an active member, a huge supporter and a regular
attendee of the Northwestern Lions Club since April 1997.
During that time, Lion Vern has held many offices from Tail Twister to
President. Lion Vern has been very active in many of our club projects as chair
of the Fruit Project, working at various motor speedway projects, helping with
the basket bingo projects, working our club’s highway clean-ups and has worked
at all of the Sausage-and-Pancake Breakfasts just to mention a few.
Lion Vern is also a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship award! This

Lion Harold Vincent has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of -the-Month for November 2010. Lion Harold has been a member of the club and active in Lionism since April of 2000. Lion Harold is recognized for his dedication, support, and contributions to the Northwestern Lions Club. In particular, Lion Harold has been instrumental in the leadership of the Scholarship Service Project. We all appreciate how Lion Harold has streamlined the selection process for that project and increased the number of applications for our scholarships. Lion Harold is also involved with the Adopt-A-Highway project and the Child Safe project as well as supporting most all of the club's endeavors. Thanks Lion Harold for all that you have done for the Northwestern Lions Club. The club extends a hearty Thank You and Congratulations to Lion Harold for a Job Well Done!!!!

Lion Gene Shaaf has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of-the-Month for October 2010. Lion Gene is a charter member of the club and has been active in Lionism since June of 1969 ( that's 41 years for the mathematically challenged! ). Lion Gene is active in the club and has been involved with most all of our club efforts in past years. Lion Gene has held most of the officer positions and has been our club's president on more than one occasion. Looking back over the years, Lion Gene helped put in the playground equipment at Northwestern Elementary, has been active in the road-side cleanup project and whole-hog sausage project as well as being a steady worker at the Indy 500 and Brickyard 400. Though Lion Gene has become a Snow-Bird in the past few years, he is still very active in the club and we all appreciate him for that. The club extends a hearty Thank You and Congratulations to Lion Gene for a job well done!!!

Lion Cathy Stephens has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of-the-Month for September 2010. Lion Cathy has been a Northwestern Lion for 4 years where she attends the club meetings regularly. Lion Cathy is instrumental in helping to lead the club's Raffle Project (which is one of our bigger fund raisers) and helps with the Kid Care project at Northwestern and Howard Elementary schools. Lion Cathy was also a huge help with past Basket Bingo events and supplied several of the prize 'kits' that served as the prizes for that fund raiser. Lion Cathy continues to serve in the club position of Treasurer. Lion Cathy's leadership in that position is very much appreciated. The club extends its THANK YOU and CONGRATULATIONS to Lion Cathy for her continued dedication to Lionism.

Lion Ron Buell has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of-the-Month for June 2010. Lion Ron has been a Northwestern Lion since September 6th, 2005. Ron is a regular attendee of our monthly meetings and is very active in the club. Besides having served as our Tail Twister and Lion Tamer, Lion Ron has been helping co-chair the Whole-Hog Sausage project and has been instrumental in getting the required supplies for, and working on, the State Road 22 cleanup service project. Lion Ron currently is serving the Northwestern Lions Club as our 1st Vice President. Thanks and congratulations Lion Ron for your hard work and dedication!!!

A Special Lion
Lion Ned Ortman passed away on April 1st in Ocala, Florida. Lion Ned was a charter member of the Northwestern Lions club and kept his membership active even though he and his wife Lena had retired to Ocala. Lion Ned served two terms as President of the Northwestern Lions club and was a deserving recipient of the Melvin Jones Achievement award from our club. Lion Ned was active in all of our club projects and was a Lion that you could look up to and admire. We will all miss his smiling face, his wisdom, his integrity, and his dedication to the Lions. Our condolences go out to his wife Lena and to his many family members and friends. Lion Ned will be missed.........

Lion Dick Eller passed away in July. Lion Dick has been a member if the Northwestern Lions for 13 years and was extremely active in the club’s activities. The whole-hog sausage project would not be what it is today if not for Lion Dick’s expert guidance and unselfish help. Lion Dick was also an unselfish supporter of the Northwestern Lion Club scholarship project. Lion Dick was a regular attendee of our monthly meetings and his fellow lions will miss his wisdom and guidance. Lion Dick will always be remembered as a mentor, a friend, a tireless worker, and a fine example of a Lion. The Northwestern Lions Club extends its heart-felt condolences to Lion Dick’s family and a hearty thank you for sharing Lion Dick with us. He will be sorely missed.June 2009

Lion Dick is recognized for his dedication, support, and contributions to the Northwestern Lions club.
