Lion of the Month

March 2010

Lion Harold Seaman has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of -the-Month for March 2010. Lion Harold has been a member for a little over a year now and has been very active in the club. Lion Harold has graciously accepted the time-consuming position of club secretary and has been doing an exemplary job in that roll. Being the Assistant Superintendent of Northwestern School Corp., Lion Harold brings to the club the needs of that corner of Howard County that our club serves. We are indeed fortunate to have Lion Harold Seaman as a member of our club and offer a hearty Thank You and Congratulations to Lion Harold!!!

February 2010

Lion Marv Buechler has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of-the Month for February 2010. Lion Marv has held most every position that is available in our club and has also supported all of our projects both past and present. Lion Marv has also ehld the important position of District Secretary a few years back. Lion Marv is one of our very active members and has a knack of keeping our club moving forward. For that we owe Lion Marv our many thanks. Thur his hard work and dedication, Lion Marv is one of those people that makes the Lions look good and makes us proud to be called a lion. Thank You and Congratulations! to Lion Marv for his dedication to Lionism!

January 2010

Lion Merrill Hoban has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of -the-Month for January 2010. Lion Merrill has been a Northwestern Lion since September of 1973 and he has served the club in many leadership capacities during his 30+ years as a club member. Lion Merrill is recognized for his work on the student eyeglass and hearing aid project, scholarship committee, entertainment book project, and the Lion's Law Camp project, just to name a few. He is perennially one of the top Whole-Hog sausage sellers and supports all of our fund raisers and service projects. In case you didn't know, Lion Merrill flew B17s in WWII! We all owe Lion Merrill a debt of gratitude...Thanks Lion Merrill for your hard work and congratulations!!!

December 2009

Lion Karen Rush has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of-the-Month for December 2009. Lion Karen has been a Northwestern Lion for 7 years. She has served the club in many leadership capacities during her years as a club member.  Lion Karen is recognized for her work on the Peace Poster Project and the Christmas Family club project. Lion Karen helped organize the last membership night as well as working at various functions such as the State Fair and making numerous club visits.  Lion Karen served on the District 25-D Lady Lion’s Forum, has served as 25-D Activities Chair and is currently serving as our own President!  The club extends its Thank You and Congratulations!!! to Lion Karen.

November 2009

Lion Gary Suter has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of-the-Month for November 2009. Lion Gary has held many positions in the club including his term as president during the 2003-2004 year.  Also, Lion Gary helps with most all of the club’s projects and fundraisers.  Lion Gary has also held many positions in the District including District 25D Sight-First group coordinator, Zone chair and as chair of the Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF).  Lion Gary also has the distinction of being a Melvin Jones Fellow and his strong dedication to Lionism and serving others has earned him the respect of his fellow Lions. The Northwestern Lions are fortunate to have such a dedicated fellow member. The club extends its Thank You and congratulations!!! To Lion Gary.

October 2009

Lion Brent McClellan has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of -the-Month for October 2009. Lion Brent is being recognized for his past and ongoing dedication regarding the numerous club projects and activities that he supports and promotes. He remains involved with the KidCare Projects, Indiana State Fair Project, and plays a major role with the Audit Committee. Also, Lion Brent concluded another very successful Raffle Project for the club in June. He again was very instrumental in bringing additional merchants aboard to donate more prizes for the raffle. Likewise, Lion Brent is very active with the club's Highway Clean-Up efforts and club visitations. He does what needs to be accomplished and makes the motto "WE SERVE" very visible in his numerous Lions activities. The club extends its Thank You and Congratulations!!! to Lion Brent.

September 2009

A Special Lion:

Lion Dick Eller passed away in July. Lion Dick has been a member if the Northwestern Lions for 13 years and was extremely active in the club’s activities. The whole-hog sausage project would not be what it is today if not for Lion Dick’s expert guidance and unselfish help. Lion Dick was also an unselfish supporter of the Northwestern Lion Club scholarship project. Lion Dick was a regular attendee of our monthly meetings and his fellow lions will miss his wisdom and guidance. Lion Dick will always be remembered as a mentor, a friend, a tireless worker, and a fine example of a Lion. The Northwestern Lions Club extends its heart-felt condolences to Lion Dick’s family and a hearty thank you for sharing Lion Dick with us. He will be sorely missed.

June 2009

Lion Charles Kirkman has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of-the-Month for June 2009. Lion Charles has been a Northwestern Lion since February 2002.  Lion Charles is a regular attendee of our monthly meetings and is active in the club. Besides having served as our club’s Lion Tamer, Lion Charles has been instrumental in getting the Lions organized to work at the Kokomo Band performances. We thank Lion Charles for his dedication and leadership this past year as our Club President. Thanks and congratulations Lion Charles for your hard work and dedication!!!

May 2009

Lion Gerry Pedone has been selected as the Northwestern Lions Club Lion-of-the-Month for May 2009. Lion Gerry has been a Northwestern Lion since June 2006. Lion Gerry has been involved the last couple of years in the raffle project and besides his usual hard work in soliciting donations for the raffle has also been seen at Krogers selling raffle tickets. Lion Gerry has also supported the highway cleanup project, the basket bingo project, and the Whole-Hog Sales Project along with several other projects. Most recently, Lion Gerry was in charge of our club's efforts in hosting the District 25D District Convention at IUK in Kokomo. Lion Gerry did a first-class job in setting up the convention and we all appreciate his efforts in making that convention a success. This club extends a hearty Thank You and Congratulations to Lion Gerry Pedone!!!

April 2009 

Lion Dick Byrum has been selected as the Northwestern Lions Club Lion-of-the-Month for April 2009.  Lion Dick has been a Northwestern Lion since February 1985.  Lion Dick consistently donates hogs for our spring and fall whole-hog sausage sales project and has offered his assistance in getting the hogs to the processing plant if other members are not available to provide that service.  The club could not do this project without the aid and support of Lion Dick.  In his earlier years as a Northwestern Lion, Lion Dick assisted the club by working the Howard County Fair selling caramel corn, brooms, cokes and yogurt for the Northwestern Lions.  He also was involved when club members moved the playground equipment from Ervin Elementary School to the Northwestern Elementary School site, a project that involved several weekends.  Lion Dick Byrum is truly a tremendous asset, resource and friend of the Northwestern Lions Club.  The club extends a hearty THANK YOU and Congratulations to Lion Dick Bryum

March 2009

Lion Vern Kirkman has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of-the-Month for March 2009.  Lion Vern has been an active member, a huge supporter and a regular attendee of the Northwestern Lions Club since April 1997.  During that time, Lion Vern has held many offices from Tail Twister to President. Lion Vern has been very active in many of our club projects as chair of the Fruit Project, working at various motor speedway projects, helping with the basket bingo projects, working our club’s highway clean-ups and has worked at all of the Sausage-and-Pancake Breakfasts just to mention a few.  Lion Vern has also helped to line up many of the visits to other clubs in our District and regularly attends the conventions and conferences in our district. This club extends a hearty Thank You and Congratulation to Lion Vern!!!

February 2009

A Special Lion:

Lion Frank Sutherland passed away in December after another battle with cancer. Lion Frank has been a Northwestern Lion and dedicated to our motto ‘We Serve’ since 1971. Lion Frank will be remembered as a dedicated lion and an unselfish supporter of the ideals of Lionism and of the Northwestern Lions Club. Lion Frank quietly strived to make this world a little better and through his support of the Lions, we believe that he succeeded. The Northwestern Lions club extends its heart-felt condolences to Lion Frank’s family and a hearty thank you for sharing him with us. He will be sorely missed…

January 2009

Lion Harold Vincent has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of-the-Month for January 2009.  Lion Harold has been a member of the club and active in Lionism since April of 2000.   Past President Lion Harold is recognized for his dedication, support, and contributions to the Northwestern Lions club.  Lion Harold has been instrumental in the leadership of the Scholarship Service Project and we all appreciate how Lion Harold has streamlined the selection process for that project.  Lion Harold is also involved with the Adopt-A-Highway project and Children’s Photo Screening project as well as supporting all of the club’s endeavors. Thanks Lion Harold for all that you have done for the Northwestern Lion club.  The club extends a hearty Thank You and Congratulations for a Job Well Done!!!

December 2008

Lion Dick Eller has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of-the-Month for December 2008.  Lion Dick has been a member of the club and active in Lionism since May 1996.   Lion Dick is recognized for his dedication, support, and contributions to the Northwestern Lions club.  Lion Dick has been a big supporter of the Whole-Hog Sausage project both in the donation of and in the processing of the hogs. He has also been active in working at the Kokomo Speedway, Indy 500, Formula 1 and State Fair projects.  Lion Dick has also been active in the Highway Clean-up project and is a big supporter of the Northwestern Scholarship project. Thanks Lion Dick for all that you have done for the Northwestern Lion club.  The club extends a hearty Thank You and Congratulations for a Job Well Done!!!

 

November  2008                 

Lion Gene Shaaf has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of-the-Month for November 2008. Lion Gene is a charter member of the club and has been active in Lionism since June of 1969. Lion Gene has been past president on more than one occasion and helped put in the playground equipment at Northwestern Elementary.  Lion Gene is also active in the road-side cleanup project and whole-hog sausage project as well as being a steady worker at the Indy 500 and Brickyard 400. Though Lion Gene has become a Snow-Bird in the past few years, he is still very active in the club and we all appreciate him for that. The club extends a hearty Thank You and Congratulations to Lion Gene for a job well done!!!

 

October 2008

Lion Cathy Stephens has been selected as the Northwestern Lion-of-the-Month for October 2008.   Lion Cathy has been a Northwestern Lion for 2 years where she attends the club meetings regularly.  Lion Cathy was instrumental in leading the clubs Raffle Project which is one of our biggest fund raisers.  Lion Cathy was also a huge help with the Basket Bingo project and supplied several of the prize ‘kits’ that served as the prizes for that fundraiser Lion Cathy has graciously accepted the club position of treasurer.  Her leadership in that position is very much appreciated.  The club extends its THANK YOU AND CONGRATULATIONS to LION CATHY.
